effluent plant

Do you ever consider where all that water goes when it pours down the drain after washing dishes, bathing or flushing a toilet? It's pretty fascinating! Somehow we seem to think that the water just disappears. That liquid is actually called wastewater, and it has to be cleaned - extensively - before returning safely back into the environment.

Effluent plants treat wastewater at a very important location. To reclaim your water and send it safely back out into rivers or oceans, these plants are a guardian to our precious H20 with some critical safety check points along the way.

Mechanical Screen

The first step is a mechanical screen, which removes any large objects in the wastewater like sticks or leaves. Depending on what you are trying to separate, the "sedimentation" stage occurs so that all of our heavy saturated content finds its way at the bottom and away from clean water we would like for extraction.

Friendly bacteria then take over, to digest the last of this organic waste in our water. This phase of biological treatment is crucial in ensuring that then water can freely return to nature. The water then passes through a disinfection process either with chlorine or by using ultraviolet light to kill off any dangerous bacteria/ viruses and is returned back into the environment.
